This fall, my wife and I are flying from the tiny regional airport in Redmond, Oregon (the closest to our home in Bend) to Florence, Italy for our daughter's wedding. We've both been to Europe, but neither of us has been to Italy, and we're super-excited to explore Tuscany.

While the wedding is still months away, we've already booked our flights. Get this… round-trip from Redmond, Oregon to Florence, Italy for two adults cost us a mere $169.26 thanks to the miles we earned on our Chase United Explorer VISA card.

Itching to travel somewhere far away? Here's how you can earn 40,000 miles. Simply get the United Explorer card and charge at least $2000 (on anything) in the first three months after the account is open.

Be smart about it — use it for normal expenses and then pay it off each month. No need to pay interest, and you'll still earn the miles.

Who knows, maybe we will run into you in Italy? 🙂

About Travel Novice

I travel. A lot. So while I'm a seasoned traveler, each time I visit a new place, I'm a "novice" to that locale.

Travel Novice is designed to help you by connecting you with fellow travelers who have been there. We don't try to be everything to everyone, we simply share our own practical experience.

You can take our real itineraries and use them as you see fit. They are what we used. Will they work for everyone? No, but you'll likely learn a lot of great tips that you might not pick up from the guidebooks and big travel sites. That's what Travel Novice is all about... real travelers sharing their real experiences.
